I am deeply honoured to receive the endorsement of the Municipal Socialist Alliance in my campaign to become the next Mayor of Hamilton. This endorsement means a great deal to me because there is real common ground between the MSA’s vision for municipal politics and the reasons I entered this race in the first place.
Hamilton is a working-class city. Yet too many working people are being priced out of housing, struggling with the cost of living, watching public infrastructure deteriorate, and feeling increasingly disconnected from the institutions that are supposed to represent them.
The MSA’s platform calls for housing justice, stronger tenant protections, more public, non-profit and co-operative housing, investment in public services, and a municipal government that puts working people and communities before private profit. Those principles intersect powerfully with my own platform.
I am fighting to expand RGI, co-operative and non-profit housing; protect tenants; properly maintain the public housing we already own; invest in prevention instead of endlessly paying for crises after they happen; strengthen the services people depend on; and make City Hall more accountable to the people who actually live and work here.
We may not agree on every individual policy (and no endorsement requires that!) but I believe strongly in building coalitions around the things that materially improve people’s lives.
Politics should be about more than managing decline. It should give ordinary people hope that their government can actually make their lives better.
I entered this race because working-class people deserve more than being spoken about during elections. We deserve political power. We deserve a seat at the table. And we deserve a Hamilton where prosperity is shared rather than concentrated in the hands of a few.
Thank you to the Municipal Socialist Alliance for your confidence in me and for standing alongside this campaign. Together, we keep organizing.
